“If you want to change people’s lives, start with their words.”

Life-changing messages are powerful. The right words at the right time can change how we feel and impact our perspective on various topics! I was reminded of this when I read an article from Josh Steimle recently. In his article, Power Messages, Josh talks about his experience with his grade school teacher Ms. Hornbeck. Her message to him was “full of power” and reverberates through his life, even today.

Messages that change lives are simple, memorable, and grounded in truth. They can come from anyone and anywhere. They don’t have to be eloquent or wordy.

Life-changing messages are simple.

They can be as basic as “I’m sorry” to more complicated like “I forgive you.” Powerful messages in just 2-3 words. They can be longer phrases or quotes, but the messages are not complex or difficult to understand.

Life-changing messages are memorable.

These messages use the right words, tone, and timing for your life. Sometimes a message will change your life because it comes at just the right point in time when that idea was needed to grow. The simplicity of the message makes it easier to remember and the timing is what makes it unforgettable.

Life-changing messages are grounded in truth.

Truth is what makes a message life-changing because it connects with something deep within us that changes our perspective on various topics!

In Josh’s article, he mentioned an interaction that he and I had on LinkedIn. He had asked the question, “What kinds of life-changing, “full of power” messages have people shared with you in your life?”

I responded with a message I received years ago that still shapes my life.

In a board meeting of one of my previous companies, a board member and mentor told me, “You’re big enough to do the things you think you’re big enough to do.” At that moment, I realized that my mindset was my only limitation.

It was truly life-changing.

I’ve taken hundreds maybe even thousands of risks since then. Risks that turned out to be growth. Growth from success and growth from failures. I wouldn’t take back those actions. I’ve learned so much from removing the limitations I’ve set for myself. Especially, the frameworks I’ve built and applied only to myself and only in my mind.

Life is a journey.

Life is an experience.

Life can be hard and one of the most difficult challenges we face in life are our self-doubts or limiting beliefs.

As you ground yourself with simple, memorable truths. Let me ask you to consider the question Josh asked, “What kinds of life-changing, “full of power” messages have people shared with you in your life?”
