Recently, I was invited to participate in sharing advice on Forbes as part of a Q&A series. I answered a few questions that have recently been published on their site. The questions were 1) How can you get free PR; and 2) How do you write attention grabbing headlines? Here are my responses and links to the original content on Forbes:

Reach out to journalists with immediate, specific source needs.

There are so many journalists and writers looking for subject matter experts. Find ways to connect with them on the things on which you or your company are uniquely expert. You can provide them your knowledge and experiences and they will naturally provide you with exposure. I use free tools like HARO (Help a Reporter Out) to answer questions and find journalists who already have immediate, specific needs. Source

Have a crystal clear purpose.

Headlines are interesting and attention grabbing when they connect the viewer with what they want or need. To write a great headline, make sure it clearly articulates what the viewer will get by clicking on it or viewing further. It’s about honesty and interest, and it’s harder than it sounds. A crystal clear purpose that matches headline to content means viewers will stay longer and share more. Source
